Imagine that, let’s say, Fender or Gibson or Ibanez or whoever you would like would approach you and ask you for a custom electric guitar design because they would like to start a new line featuring John Doe’s design (no offense, I hope, we are all great people but probably compared to those ones putting their names on guitars, we are John Doe). What would you put into it? I know you look up to those custom guitars of some big shot player, but did you ever think about what would you put into you own custom electric guitar?
First of all, who would be the manufacturer? Will it be Fender? Will it be Gibson? Will it be Ibanez? Will it be Danelectro?
(I put it here since I had reactions on the post about Danelectro Longhorn)
Second, what would you put on it? This post could also be called build your perfect electric guitar! Let’s see a few people answering that question: Jon of GuitarNoize.com, GuitarMX.com, JP of Strat-O-Blogster (by the way, I don’t think he would chose an Ibanez or a Gibson, I just have a feeling), Lori of Play like a girl, if she finds the time, GLW from guitarz.blogspot.com and everybody else.
By the way, Stumble this please!

I’d have to have the Fender Custom Shop build me a dream strat:
probably a swamp ash body, lefty 21-fret 1-piece maple neck, gold hardware, kluson tuners, 2 point bridge, S-1 switching on my texas specials (which would have to be custom black-cover ones), on a red tigerstripe pickguard and a natural wood nitro finish.
That, or the Wangcaster… tough choice.
oh, and by the way…. stumbled! enjoy the traffic spike! find me on stumbleupon, I’m Mad Stratter there, too.

Haha, yes Mad Stratter the wang caster is certainly a temptation!
Good question this one, I’m not really sure who I would like to build me a custom guitar but I’m currently obsessed with Nick Huber’s guitars I think they are absolutely jaw dropping, and to be honest I’d be happy with an off the shelf model, a redwood maybe?

I rescind my comment about the finish, and would like to change it to a flamed maple top. I hope you guys at Fender haven’t already gotten to work on it

Mad Stratter, the Wangcaster is horrible
would you dare play it on stage?
I remember that here in Romania it was a bass player that had a machine gun like bass guitar, what a strange looking beast
About your dream guitar I think Fender already started working on it, http://www.suhrguitars.com/images/swampAsh.jpg
For Jon: it is a nice one, for a Gibson lover, I think.
For me, if I would speak about my dream guitar, I think that I would put it in an other way: I would like the crisp sound of Fender, the sustain of a Gibson, a Floyd Rose locking tremolo, the look of an Ibanez (Vai or Satriani).
I am not yet sure about the look. I started to love these friendlier electric guitars such as Fender (round shapes) or Carvin or Red Special looking guitars. About the neck, I think I would like a C shaped one, even if I am more used to play a flat one, but a C shaped neck is a temptation to me. Ah, yes, and the color of the neck to be natural wood.
I think that if you look at Andy Timmons electric guitar it has that look of Ibanez, but the sound is more of a Fender guitar. But no tremolo, such a shame…

I’m more of a Gibson guy, but honestly Gibson and Fender are pretty much stuck in the past, so I’d go to Schecter and have them build it. Yes, it would end up being produced in Korea, but it would be to my exact specs and the model I’d have would be off-the-shelf exactly the same at a guitar store. And it would be modern in design and features, and affordable. I know that’s not a specific answer because honestly I’m pretty okay with what is out there now.
