I’m not into cigar box guitars, the fact is that I understand them as a step in the evolution of the guitars, I recognize the historical value, but I can not go beyond this point.
Well, this morning, I stumbled upon this set of pictures on Flick, very interesting guitars made of a cigar box, a lunch box, etc. I don’t know if they actually play, but they sure look interesting.

Well, at that moment I wasn’t decided to post this here, but I guess today the lady with the horoscope must have planed something for me, because from another source, I reached this site here and that was the end of it. I just had to post this here since it seems that cigar box guitars keep on following me this morning.

By the way, does any of you have such guitars at home? What kind of strings do you put on this guitars? Normal ones? Or what?

Some smokin’ guitars there Ovidiu. No, we don’t have any, but I might someday. My kids love the Transformer side of this art.

Nice guitars, to have in the collection, if you have one. Not my type, as I am not a fan of cigar box guitars, but interesting…

Yes, you put regular guitar strings on them. Depending if its acoustic or electric, just like any other guitar.
Cool pics!!

You don’t need to be a fan of CBGs particularly, just good instruments and the blues/jazz/rock. Many a maker makes 6 string accoustic and electric CBGs that look distinct, but play just like a well made regular instrument.
I’m in the UK, where Cigar Boxes aren’t as common. But there is a huge interest in the “Found Art” here too. With the few boxes available, oil cans, and cookie tins being made into very playable instruments, some of which have the tone of a Banjo, others a decent metal body resonator acoustic, and some like the finest crafted pro-quality electric.
You really should step aside from the “not my type” as it is no no different than saying a Gibson isn’t my type because I only play fender.
