I am quite excited everytime I read something about fingerstyle guitar players. I don’t play this way, but I enjoy every second watching one of these guys playing. I have posted here a couple of videos of Sungha Jung, a fingerstyle guitar player of only 11 yo, I have posted about Andy McKee also, I have posted about Phil Keaggy, which I consider to be one of the best ever…
Today I have seen this video of Don Ross, a true artist! Here’s a beautiful performance, a beautiful song and a very smooth way of playing the guitar!
Enjoy and comment!

I don’t play much fingerstyle either, but I also greatly enjoy watching fingerstyle guitarists play. It’s amazing what sounds they are able to get. Watching Tommy Emmanuel a few weeks ago really blew me away. Don Ross if fantastic as well.

Yea, I guess the exact fact that we don’t play that way makes us watch them and listen to them.

Wow! I’m almost speechless! That was great! I love acoustic guitar playing so this is right up my alley! Thanks for posting this-I always look for new YT stuff from McKee, and now I have this guy and the others you mentioned to look for more clips!

He plays very beautiful, indeed. There are more and what I have observed is that everyone of these guys has it’s own style of fingerpicking/hitting strings. Very unique approach…
Do you know Erik Mongrain?

An oldie, but a goodie! (–I’m biased, ’cause I’m living in Alabama)

gosh, Mr Ross and Chet Atkins all in one night…. you see Mr Ovidiu, and Dr J, that is the sounds I hear in my heart, but these old cotton pickin’ fingers just don’t have the feather duster litheness needed to produce it.
Wow it is a lot of good picking going on. It encourages me to see all the creative work…
No worries, I still get to play my parents old Wurlitzer!! And sulk on my out of tune piano… then I pick up one of the old guitars and use it like a hammer dulcimer. Ain’t it great?

PD, check out the Chapman Stick; it’s all fretboard and you play it like a piano!

I wonder if this finger picking style isn’t a bit the style of people spending more time with themselves, I mean if you play “regular” guitar, let’s say, you need a band to play with while this way you do it better all alone. Don’t you think so?

Ross is very good! I’m a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel and the late Michael Hedges. Check out this clip of Monte Montgomery:

Ovidiu-no (I don’t know if your comment was directed at me soley or in general-I am thinking it was to all readers)I had not seen Eric Mongrain-I like him, but that tapping style is a little limiting to me-just my opinion of course-he a great guitarist though. As for Monte Montgomery-really really great guitarist, but if that Little Wing cover is any indication that version is a little over the top for me.
