I Won’t Buy This New Album From Guns N’ Roses

These days everybody speaks about Axl Rose and his upcoming album,Chinese Democracy, so I can not stop myself speaking about it.

I have said it before that I don’t believe anymore in Axl, not without the rest of the band, especially after 14 years of pause, 14 years of never ending stories about how he will make the greatest album ever.

But here we are, waiting for the big day, the day when Axl Rose’s latest album will be released.

I am really looking forward to it, to see what it brings, and I will probably buy it. However, I will buy it as a new beginning, a new era in Axl’s musical life, not as a new album of GNR. For me, GNR died the moment Slash and Co walked a new path. I don’t blame them or Axl for breaking up the band. I don’t have the right to do it, they are the band, I am just a fan, so I just take the facts as they are. And the fact is that GNR split back then, Axl went one direction, Slash & Co went another way. Or as my friend and bass player would say, they went the same way, opposite directions…

Now after 14 years, GNR releases a new album. I don’t buy that.

That’s not GNR out there, that’s just a solo album of Axl. And I do buy that, I buy it with a fresh and open mind, waiting for a great release of a proven musician.

That being said, I just ask myself, if Axl wouldn’t have had the legal rights for the name GNR, would have his new album started that much buzz worldwide or would have been just another solo album out there?

So, what do you think about it? And more than this, what do you buy? A new GNR album or Axl’s solo album?

I only bought the new GNR album because of Axl’s new hair doo and his cosmetic surgery. He looks 14 years younger and that turns me on…

I wonder how successful this album will turn out. I listen to one song and thought it was okay. My wife who is 7-years younger than me, didn’t connect with it. So… we’ll see.

As a big G’n'R fan back in the Appetite days I was really looking forward to hearing this new album but I have to say I absolutely hands down hated it, it was deleted from my iTunes after one play. No this is not a new Gunners record and shouldn’t be judged as one but what on earth has happened? The songs sound so lame, crappy love songs that sound like Boyzone with a guitar solo shoe-horned in to justify it as rock. Oh dear, Slash lied when he said this new album sounds awesome.

I think you make a really good point about Axl having rights to the name vs. not having rights. Without the GNR lable, I doubt the ablum would have gotten any publicity.

I believe in the idea of progression of an artist, no matter what the genre. I’d buy the new album to see what happened, and how Axl progressed. What does his music sound like now?

I’m listening to the title track on youtube right now. Not awful. It sounds a lot like everything else. I like Axl’s vocals, though–not what I was expecting.

well ovi now I know. you think like a guitar player. nothing more. that’s bad. chinese democracy will kick every pessimistic ass, because it’s more than cool. i can see above alot of negative opinions, and some kind of irony. if you say hey” the others say “hey hey hey hey…”, like an echo. very well if you dont buy this album i’ll buy 2, 3. who knows?… slash cant be a band. never ever. axl is already.

@axlsofuckinrose: Costi, I am not against this album, I won’t ever be. I will buy it, but I will buy it as the first solo album of Axl, not as a new album of GNR because GNR has nothing to do with this in my opinion, GNR does not exist anymore. What is now on stage is Axl with the legal rights to have the name.

I am also curious to see how it sounds and I will be more than happy if it will sound well, because I also hate to see Axl somewhere in the back, I really want it to be a great album, really. But still, GNR was more than the singer.

I know you are a fan and I also love Guns and what they made back then, but I believe in the power of the band, people working together make a better result than a single person, but I may be wrong in this case, i will need to see.

By the way, to come back a bit on our Romanian lands, do you consider Vama veche still lives on?

I agree with what you have posted, it will not be the same without the origional crew, it may sound good when it’s complete but it won’t be the same. Axl fans will love it though.

Why is this called Guns ‘n’ Roses? Really, it’s an Axl Rose solo album. Does Axl even know all the musicians who have played on it?

Well, Sammy, I even watched carefully the YouTube video for Chinese Democracy and I see Axl all the time in there, the rest of the members I barely see. The song sounds interesting, not very melodic, but interesting, but it’s Axl solo album. But…no more negative comments on it because my friend and fellow lead singer(axlfuckingrose) will get mad at me

I must meet him in a couple of days when we will rehears and I wanna get home safe
