Without wanting to hurt girl’s feelings in any way, I haven’t seen that many good girl solo guitar players so far. Again, Jennifer Batten is a great exception that kicks ass! Yeah!
But while looking around (of course, for something else) I have seen this video on YouTube of a Korean girl playing the electric guitar. Man, she is good and plays very clean so I said it would be a good thing to share it with you here! So, here it is:
And let me hear your opinions on this! Does she kick ass or what?!

Pretty cool to see someone breaking down the stereotype that girls can’t play guitar. Awesome playing too!

She’s great– very nice tone! I have a hunch that she’s promoting that guitar line.
There’s another Korean line called Swing, that is well demo’d on their site and youtube by some awesome Korean players.
As for you being new to guitar girls, I’m shocked that you haven’t yet discovered my Strat-o-Sisters Directory!!!
Better get over there– there are lots of great ladies playing guitars:

Yeah, very clean and quite beautiful, I like her phrasing and the fact that she doesn’t end her musical phrase when the measure end. This helps the melody.

I used to teach guitar, and one of the best guitarists I taught was a girl. She developed her own classical/latin/pop hybrid style. I had more boy students than girls-probably because more boys play guitar–but the girls held their own for the most part.

Notice how she just up/downstrokes through the whole lead part and lets her left hand do all the work? Pretty cool technique.

@pilgrim: Probably because girls are more organized and probably they put more time and dedication in their study.
@Sammy: yes, and her whole playing is very fluent and cursive. She has a very good technique. I guess she rehearsed a lot the song because she knew the exact moment she had to stop, but still, this is a great playing.

@JP (Stratoblogster) I am sorry I have seen your comment very late, Akismet marked it as spam and I haven’t checked my spam list.
I promise to take a look at your strat-o-sister directory and I am sure I will find a lot of interesting women playing the guitar
Thanks!

I’ve watched a few videos of these Korean guitar shredders and I’ve noticed something peculiar. Their facial expressions lack any joy. I’ve seen Dateline type shows on Asian sex slaves and they have that same vacant, disconnected look. Maybe it’s just a cultural thing that I’m totally unaware of, and I’m not expecting Yngwie or Vai stage antics, but these girls look as if they’d rather be doing anything besides playing guitar.

Well, I think it may be a cultural thing, but I also think they love playing the guitar even if they don’t show it. Think about how they receive western guitar gods there and how they cherish everything coming from guitar oriented music. There must be a reason for all those oriental rock tours, right?

But just as a note: I have thought also about this, because indeed, they look kind of dull. I have observed it myself but I thought it is just me…
By the way, to compensate this, watch any video of Gustavo Guerra on YouTube and you’ll see he has that laaaarge smile on his face! Now, that must be happiness!!
