Since GuitarNoize and Guitar Channel posted about this, it may not be news anymore, but due to the fact that I love Joe Satriani’s work so much, I just couldn’t let it go. So I point here the fact that on April 1st, 2008, Joe Satriani will release his 13th solo album under the funny name of Professor Satchafunkilus. Whatever that means…
I must admit I don’t know what the album will sound like, but after playing instrumental rock so many years, experiencing electronic sounds and later warmer jazzy touches, we could expect almost anything from him. I think the fans will be there no matter what the musical style will be.
And if we count the fact that ZZ Satriani, Joe’s son is playing the sax on this album, well…

No doubt Satch is an awesome ax master. Top 5 world wide.
The thing that bugs me about him thou is his arrogance on stage.
As if every second he play he is saying “look at how awesome i am”

It’s strange you say that, if you have seen interviews with him you have probably seen he is so natural and everybody says he is not one of those stars that you can not talk to. I think that on stage he just feels at home and enjoys himself.

Joe is a great guy, player, writer etc. And let it be known that I enjoy his music (Red album is my favorite). But am I the only guy that wants to see him loosen up a bit? It’s just a minor shniggle, but he seems to have defined himself a bit too narrow. I know his production team works, and he has taken plenty of chances through his career, BUT… collaborate and leave the musical dictator stuff for Sting, ya know? We love who is is as a musician, so why not let us hear him SHARE with other equally talented and idealistic musicians? Case in point; I bought Satch’s greatest hits pkg. for a seriously hip 72 year old retired classical musician friend as a gift. After listening to it he said this: “I like this music. This guy is really doing his thing right. Kinda like The Ventures in leather pants with modern equipment!” When I asked him why he liked it he said “Great little melodies and production.” “That’s it?” I asked. “C’mon,” he said “He’s a formula musician. Just like the Ventures.” I was taken aback; the Ventures are a surf band! But when I thought about it, he was right. Write a Suite or hire a singer or write for some horns or hire Virgil Donati and Victor Wooten and let them co-write… maybe he should IMPROVISE HIS SOLOS IN CONCERT. I dunno…maybe I’m outgrowing him? I’m going to go listen to “Time”, “Cool #49″, “Killer Bee Bop” and “Borg Sex” and see…

To me, Satch is the best electric guitar player that is out there. He is not repeating a note through his albums, he’s trying to conquer new grounds with every album and considering his musicianship and music teacher history I think I will never thing anything wrong about this guy. Really…
In my opinion, his music sounds just perfect, frankly I wouldn’t want him to change anything.
