Hello again, my dear online friends! I am back from my sunny holiday and back to my computer! I must admit I don’t know if I will find it easy to come back to the same rhythm as before since sun, sand, water and beer can really take you out of writing shape! I will probably need a few days to come back to the same rhythm as before. So…
I had a very relaxing holiday, a lot of days spent without doing anything else than relaxing, drinking beer on the beach, swimming and meeting friends (we’ve met 2 of my cousins who also spent their holiday there so we had company for a lot of days and a lot of beers)
At one moment we decided to cross the border and take a trip to Bulgaria, a bit fearful, to be honest since Bulgarian police has not the best reputation around. I payed extra attention to traffic signs and speed limits and it was OK. We spent one full day at their Golden Sands resort where prices were the same as in Romania. only that there were a lot of foreigners, a lot of Italians IMO, the beach was tidier and more animated.
In one word, I like it there and decided to go back for a full holiday at one moment. However, 2 observations from Bulgaria:
- They have no alcohol free beer!! What?!! 3 different bartenders looked at me lost when I asked for alcohol free beer. No, we have not such thing. And what do you drink when you drive? Well, water, juice, alcohol free cocktails. Reasonable…but where’s my beer?!! One of the girls serving cocktails on the beach told me she remembers she saw alcohol free beer in stores a couple of years ago…hmm. We have about 4-5 sorts of alcohol free beer that come to my mind this very moment!
- Their traffic signs are absolutely horrible! For ex: you get to a point where the speed limit is 20km/h because a particular situation there, a dangerous turn or something. OK, then the turn is over and I find myself in front of a clear European road where the limit would be 90km/h, but there was no sign that the 20km/h speed limit is over!! I told you I payed attention to those signs, OK?!! WTF!?!! This situation was very frequent in Bulgaria and it was very annoying since I was trying to avoid being stopped by their police! So I decided to apply a different rule there: I try to guess the reason for the speed limit (like that curve) and once the reason is gone, I drive with the theoretical speed limit for that part of the road. Pretty wild but I managed to get home safely, without breaking too many rules there, beside a few red lights…whatever…

When coming back in the evening, I had to admit that we(Romanians) should be a bit more careful with cleaning our beaches, but hey, that’s the Latin spirit I guess, compared to Slavic spirit of our neighbors. As for the rest, if I compare the wild cars I have seen in Mamaia(Romania), I have never seen them anywhere else. My brother in law was absolutely crazy when he saw some latest moment cars, like BMW X6 or latest Mercedes or Aston Martin. Well, nobody said there are no rich people in Romania, right? We could also judge by the yachts, if we think about, we visited the marina in the last day there, for fun.

At the end of this trip, I just want to make a few notes regarding my blog here:
- A big thanks to IG for his great post about seeking guitar teachers that got quite a few good page views while I was away! Thanks, man! I owe you one!
- My traffic was steady at around 550 visitors per day in the last 3 weeks and my RSS subscribers increased while I was away, so I should probably go more often in holidays, my traffic would probably increase!! I will leave again at the end of this week in the mountains for a few days so please, please subscribe to my RSS feeds!!
- Guys, comment on this post here about Willie Nelson, to enter the drawing for the free collection of 4 CDs of Willie Nelson’s career! It doesn’t hurt and it is free! Really!
That’s about it for today, a pretty long post but hey, the man is back to business!! So stay close!

Wow man! I have to admit that I am a little jealous. There are so many places that I want to see in my life, and Romania has always been at the top of the list. Its so beautiful there and I’ve heard that the temperatures through the year are very similar to the temperatures where I’m at. Plus the landscape and the castles are so amazing. I had never considered Bulgaria before, but after seeing those pictures, it looks incredible. Thanks for the heads up on the speed limits and lacking of alcohol free beer. Knowing that will make my trip there (someday) a lot easier. I hope that your returning to routine life is a smooth one for ya!

I’m glad your back and would really like to win the Willie Nelson stuff. So far I have a 50/50 chance. now. I saw him in concert last year. What a show. The best in the business. One of the few times in my life I got more than I payed for.

Back so soon? Hey anyone can stand in front of a big screen and shoot pictures. That’s not fair to tease me !! How much did you have to pay that pretty girl to pose with you?
Okay, so let me get this right: Bulgarians drink large quantities of Bulgarian lager beer and go from there to driving 90 on mountain roads. Hmmmm Interesting.
There is nothing like getting away for a few delicious days… eh? Now we just need to figure out alcohol-free Tequila, for designated drivers of Bulgaria. And you say you need some beach cleaners in Romania? Unemployment in the USA is way up.

@Danny: well, I haven’t seen him live, but I really like his music and the general feeling of the man and the guitar. And I surely like him in movies as well
@PD: Hey, hey, PD, I pay this lady a lot of money every single day in my life, but that’s OK cause she is my wife
I don’t know about their large beers, but I surely couldn’t find the alcohol free one!And about driving, I shared my experiences with 4 friends that have been to Bulgaria this year and they agreed with me on this point of driving signs, they had big questions about what speed should they drive on particular areas of a road.
OK, send the guys here, we could use some services in this direction

@Tennyson Williams: I guess that you will find Romania as being very interesting as a tourist, to take trips to the cool places, like the castles you mentioned, plus the seaside, mountain resorts and famous Romanian churches in the north-eastern part.
I have been twice in Bulgaria but the first one I was only traveling so I can not tell you much about it, but both times I have seen Bulgaria as a country of contrasts, the way Romania was 10-15 years ago, old cars/great hotels, BMWs/poor people, lovely tourism/poor roads. But I did promise to myself to take a longer trip there once to take a deeper view of it since I liked Golden Sands resort very much, plus a “palace” of Queen Maria, with lovely flower gardens which is part of Romanian history but is on Bulgarian territory in a place that was a disputed land between Bulgaria and Romania over time.
