I know that playing really fast is not quite related to music, even if Symphony X or Malmsteen fans will contradict me, but this guy here,Tiago Della Vega, deserves mentioning here since he plays really (and I mean really, really) fast.
I have posted here some time ago something about a guy that said he is the fastest guitar player in the world, but what he did was actually playing with his right hand only, not not actually playing the guitar.
Tiago Della Vega here plays a song at the fastest tempo I have ever seen so far, 320 bps, to a point where it seems he doesn’t actually play anymore, but just move his left hand over the frets.
The fact is that it is quite annoying and really is not music anymore, but for the sake of the record, you just have to listen it till the end. So, without any more comments, I give you Tiago Della Vega, the fastest guitar player in the world…
Well? Anybody dares to beat this guy? In playing the guitar, I mean…
Later edit: To all of you coming from StumbleUpon, thank you for visiting in such large numbers!! I am impressed! Please don’t forget to give a thumb up to this page! Thank you!

I’m noticing that speed on guitar is becoming a huge widespread fad. I respect that. There is so much skill there to only sound like a computerized simulated sampler. But where’s the music? His work, to me, sounds like an old theme for a Nintendo game. Maybe I’m missing the point. Anyways, thanks for sharing Ovidiu, it helps bring another perspective into what’s going on in the guitar world.

I have never thought about this, but you are right, it does sound like a computer simulated music, very interesting observation
Speed has it’s meaning and used wisely, brings value, just not overuse it…

When it comes time for the Iron Maiden guitar solo (usually a trade-off), I’ve always much preferred the Adrian Smith “feeling” solo after Dave Murray is finished with the “speed” solo.
i.e., this guy is impressive but B-O-R-I-N-G, even though I’ll never be able to do that.

@Dr J: I knew the song, but I didn’t know who composed it. I am a long time Manowar fan and they have it recorded on one of the albums under the name Sting of the bumblebee, played on bass by Joey DeMaio, but I was curious about who wrote the song. Thanks, Dr J!
@Sammy: He is boring, indeed, but the whole point of this was to break the speed record and considering this, he succeeded, even if he won’t get a prize for musicality and originality.
@drHoward: Indeed, they did this a long time before this guy, but they are not faster, really. Man, I can not believe I am part of this conversation with who is faster than who

The use? I don’t know exacly how this guy sings. I know he is fast and this is an advantage. I tend to think that his playing is good, taking into consideration his technical abilities. He could be a great guitarist, but if the only thing that he knows is how to play fast, than it’s no use. We’ll see…

He seems he dedicated his life from when he was five to guitar playing and in the last years he spent about 16 hours a day for playing the guitar. I have listened a few of his songs and he seems to not abuse of his speed, I will also watch him, I am curious if we will hear from him again in the future.

Ovidiu -this is boring as Sammy said. The actual tune is not even comprehensible here. I do like speed, but tastefully done, this is just lifeless, and I agree with Dr Howard-the guys he cites maybe aren’t as fast, but they are playing actual songs/music, not trying to break a guitar-playing speed record.

I watched the vid, I’m sure that this was done purely for the sake of setting a record, I’m also willing to bet the intro and outro music was his as well, and believe it or not, I heard some feeling in that. I was pretty impressed about his skills, but if he is a true virtuoso in the vein of guys like Vai, Petrucci, Gilbert, etc. then he can play tastefully so at normal speeds, to me, a true musician can combine elements of speed, technical precision, and feel to catch your ear. While many may think “oh big deal, he can play fast, boooring”, keep in mind this was to set a record not to be entertaining in the sense of “impress me”. btw, that guitar looked like a custom 7 string, I thought it was a Schecter, it may be, but I couldn’t tell.

His first youtube video is named 38bps, now we assume he’s implying he can play 38 notes per seconds, otherwise 38 notes with the metronome set at 60. By doing simple math this gives out the following results:
metronome at 60 = 38 beats
met. 120 = 19
met. 240 = 9.5
met. 320 = 7.125
The record video shows him playing 4 sixteenth note per beat and the metronome is at 320.
Can he play fast, I am sure, but the accuracy of those 2 videos and the metronome settings do not match. If he can play 7 beats at 320, why then not do that at the guinness world record show where he only played 4 beats at 320?
Again, when it comes to rhythm is simple math subdivisions where you can calculate all of this, and well it justs doesn’t add up.

Yeah!!! I’ve seen you on youtube before. This same video presentation. A very good expose of clean effecient picking technique. Quadrupple at 280 is the fastest I’ve ever gone but certainly not with the smoothness and accuracy you display here!!! Keep playing ! I love it!!!!!!

My bicycle sounds like this when something gets stuck in the spokes.
While I can admire his dedication, tenacity and exacting technique (and as you rightly said) this isn’t music. But everyone knows that (including the guitarist himself).

this guy sucks, he has a record, but he plays really choppy, and he misses a lot of the notes as it gets faster, you can notice if you watch closely.. and hes really not playing a lot of notes, just a song at a high tempo, which isnt very hard to do.. im not impressed

I can’t believe people are bagging this guy he is obviously a very talented guitarist and it is amazing what he has done with flight of the bumble bee, I’m sure Rimski-Korsakov would be impressed. If you’re not into this genre of music then of course you’re not going to like it or find it boring…but it’s a hell of a lot better then all this pop-rock they produce today. The only thing that sucks about it is that I doubt we will hear too much more about him because the music industry isn’t about who has the talent and love for what they do…it’s about who can make the most money in the fastest way possible.

Wow thats pretty damn cool. I find it really annoying when people conplain when theres someone playing fast saying “oh theres no soul, its boring blah blah blah” but i really dont see why. Ofcourse at crazy speed like this im sure theres alot of subtle things that you just physically can’t do but that doesn’t mean its got no soul because you can’t measure soul. I love all kinds of music from pop to shred and everything in between and bulgarian wedding music but you cannot dismiss someone just because they don’t play it like Hendrix (who was and is awsome) but really theres no more soul in a bluesy bend than there is in… well whatever this is! In the end it’s all subjective as it is an art and you could say “blah blah blah its maths bla bla bla” and your entitled to your own opinion but in the end no one cares. I think this is pretty awsome… I wouldn’t listen to flight of the bumblebe at 320 bpm usually cause… well just cause but its awsome and all these anti shred people can all just stop being such jerks.

This guy plays faster than any other human being, so he is #1. People who complain are jealous because they are far inferior regarding this type of talent. I love fast guitar and I love the song too. Awesome to see that technical habilities have evolved to this point.

The narcissistically fueled stupidity of the average human being is revealed in some of these comments: “not musical… not melodic… not creative… he didn’t cure cancer…he didn’t solve world hunger”. HELLO, only one thing is being claimed, executing an instrumental passage faster than anyone else. (like running the 100 yard dash as opposed to winning Wimbledon, curing cancer etc). That all having been said, precision of execution does seem relevant. Curious about that (as opposed to some of the irrelevancies mentioned by others) I slowed this down on a Wavepad wave editor. Unfortunately the source fidelity is limited, and at 1/3 speed it sounds indistinct. I would like to hear it w/o the backing track and in higher fidelity to judge how well he executes – since that (as opposed to winning a Grammy) is relevant to what he is claiming to do. Anyone else have observations along these lines?
