It happened more than 2 or 3 times these days to have a chat with my buddies, to speak about guitar music and to have the almost “predictable surprise” to see they don’t know about Chet Atkins.

The fact is that in Romania, you only know about Chet Atkins if you are a true guitar music fan, otherwise you don’t stand a chance! I know this blog is about guitars and guitar music so most of you know who Chet Atkins is, but for those that don’t know, and I bet some don’t, I decided to post here a video that open the appetite for his music.

Now, don’t you believe I am some kind of connoisseur when it comes to Chet Atkins. Not by far!
But I am a person that really enjoys his music and his playing style, as well as his abilities.

And honestly it is such a pity, if you love guitar music, to not know about a guy that is simply called Mr Guitar!

Here’s a song that for Romanians has some particular meaning, a long time ago there use to be a comic TV show here that had this song as a music theme: The entertainer, Chet Atkins

Mr Bojangles

And Maybelle

Well, now, start searching for more of Chet Atkins music!

Go, go, don’t waste your time!

PS: I know that a surprise is not predictable because if it would be predictable it wouldn’t be a surprise but sounds cool!

When I was a kid, if there was a guitar player on TV, more often than not, it was Chet.
A class act in every sense.
Chet and Les Paul made a couple of albums, the first one- “Chester and Lester; Guitar Monsters” is a blast.

I must listen it, Jack, since I don’t know it. Anyway, I must tell you I discovered a preference for the acoustic songs he plays, electric songs don’t necessarily give me the thrills, but the acoustic songs are just wonderful!

I really enjoy his easiness to play the guitar, seems he makes no effort to play those notes there, I guess he inspired a lot of guys to just start playing, making them believe it is so easy to play…

Chet is definitely one of the most influential guitarists for me. Trying to transcribe is songs takes alot of time and patience but every moment of it is incredible. I think it’s truly essential for serious guitarists to know about Chet Atkins

I agree, Kile. I don’t know (on guitar, I mean) any of of his songs, but it is just amazing to watch him and listen what he plays, it’s pure magic.
