As you probably know, I love YouTube videos that bring something to the table.

So, you may already expect something interesting with the video here. It is not about guitars, but it is about simple people gifted with great talents. I have already said that those who made it big are up there because of a positive complex of happenings and should never look down on the rest of us, because they can never know who could slap you in the face without notice with a stunning performance…

Like the one here. I can tell you I started to watch this video ready to laugh big time, probably the same as everybody there but…

So, to not ruin your surprise, watch this video, of course, with sound. I can’t embed it because embedding was disabled by user request, on YT, but this should not be an issue.

Later edit: I managed to find a video out there, here it is:

And get back here and let me know what you think about the lady there!! By the way, in case you haven’t yet noticed, her name is Susan Boyle. Just for the record.

Isn’t she wonderful?

Unfortunately I could bet that we will never hear about her again, outside this  show. That’s life…

And now Stumble that!

A beautiful Lady, with an incredible voice.

I guess you learned nothing given the title :

Bless you Susan! You made my day.

Why is it that people insist on hearing the voice’s of people considered to be beautiful. What does someone’s looks have to do with music. Previous to the californication of our society this womans looks would not have mattered and she could well have been a household name. Where will this type of closed minded biased stereotyping lead the human race?

Susan Boyle got up on stage and sang with all her heart and did not let what others thought stop her. In my mind this woman is worth more than a thousand models. BEAUTY IS on the INSIDE

Several years ago here in Canada we had a rather large lady with a larger voice. Her name was Rita McNeil and in the eighties she became very well known throughout Canada. She was also a older (but better) single mother who was given a chance. Good on you Susan Boyle. Your voice brought a tear to my eye.

Regarding the title, I didn’t mean to be offensive and when I said that I was prepared to laugh, it’s because we all know this kind of videos where somebody comes on stage as a big talent and sings or dances so bad that you can’t even watch it and can’t stop laughing. I thought it will be one of those moments!

As someone who’s been singing and in theatre my whole life, and who has also used this song for auditions, I can safely say that YOU have no clue what you’re talking about. Well think that you might have made another judgment error if you think that she wont be heard of again outside of the show ,how much were you thinking of betting ?.She not only can sing but think she has proved that there is a lot more to her than meets the eye.
    And

  29. jamie
    April 15th, 2009 at 6:30 pm

    Fantastic! Really enjoyed that.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being cynical in itself… Greg has accused those who expected otherwise as being shallow. Is this right??

Maybe we’re not to blame because we know the format of these shows and what they are about. Usually when someone weird/ugly/old comes on, they’re quite likely to sing pretty awful too.

Is it wrong to judge a book by it’s cover, and why??Why do we judge by appearances in the first place? Is it society and the media that’s to blame?? Or is it an evolutionary function??

I don’t think there was anything ethically wrong with being judgemental here. And here’s why:

    (1) I don’t think it’s so much that she was ugly, or old. But it’s that she was quirky and odd. And I don’t think that’s being shallow, because we were judging her by her behaviour and not her looks.

    (2) Judging others by their appearences is only ethically wrong if it affects how we treat other people. If you decide not to talk to someone because they’re ugly, then that would be wrong. (You might decide that if they are ugly then they are a bit weird, or not a nice person). If you find someone ugly, and suspect that they might be weird/not a nice person, but you give them the benefit of the doubt and treat them as you would any other person, then that doesn’t seem wrong.

But its quite hard to see the line between a judgement X about Y makes and how X decides to treat Y. What if you’re walking down the street and someone looks like a mugger. What do you do? You protect yourself!

Think I’ve rambled too much. But yeah, interesting stuff :P

When the song began, before she sang a note she looked “Regal” and then each note was utterly amazing! I will buy every CD she records, for the rest of my life!

Why does everyone believe that only” beautiful ” people can shine, we had an opera singer by the name of Joan Sutherland and she wasn’t endowed with good looks but she enthralled people with her voice. This little lady has a gift and I only hope she gets the chance to let the world hear her. I believe Simon is taking her under his wing and why wouldn’t he, she deserves it.

She really did bring a lump to my throat. She’s a winner in my book.
She’s a true pure old fashioned girl with old fashioned values from a small village. I hope the show helps her discover herself and she becomes successful with confidence and beauty.

    Simply beautiful.

The stunning thing should not be that a woman such as Susan Boyle can walk out on stage and wow us with an amazing performance like that, but rather that each and every person had already judged her talent to be nonexistent until she opened her mouth based purely on the fact that she isn’t the prettiest woman. Now that is a downright shame.

How horrible to be so superficial.

For those who know me! Buena suerte! Y felicidades.

Susan’s voice is one of the most beautiful voices I have heard. Steve’s post is the only one I could bear to read in its entirety. It appalls me that there are people claiming to have “been in the industry” for X-amount of years, who praise this woman’s voice like they do. There is an incomprehensible number of things wrong with this performance (technically AND musically/artistically), to the point where it is unpleasant to listen to. My guess is that most of you have never heard a voice that wasn’t in the style of whatever you hear on your favorite mainstream radio station. That’s fine, but I suggest you expand your horizons and seek out the tone quality and emotional nuance that the art of singing actually has to offer. Try this for a start:

She absolutely did it justice. I didn’t know what to expect when I saw her. I wouldn’t say I was cynical, but I wasn’t expecting that. I thoroughly hope we DO hear more from her outside the show. She completely deserves it.

  65. Adelle
    April 17th, 2009 at 4:40 pm

hate to say it, but I mostly agree with Steve from the 14th: she doesn’t have that great of a voice. At one point in the song, it did carry strongly, but I kept on thinking about Paul Potts, who did a similar thing on Britain’s Got Talent, only with a genuinely operatic voice that was smooth and clear and brought tears to my eyes.

This lady knows how to belt it, no doubt, and she didn’t hit any false notes, but her voice doesn’t have that clarity and purity that really beautiful singing offers.

And she really didn’t carry herself with humility. She was showing off and being foolish before she began singing.

Go to YouTube and search Paul Potts if you REALLY want to see a humble soul pouring out in genuine beauty and talent.

What an amazing talent. Shame on all of us who were willing to write her off before she sang. Society needs to screech to a halt now and understand beauty is only skin deep and this notion that only “beautiful” people have talent or can succeed is so wrong. Please stop shoving that thought down the throats of our youth. This lady has a wonderful talent and she now deserves to show it to the world. It is her time to shine, and unlike a lot of the people who think they are owed fame, her time will be a lot more than 15 minutes.

We should never judge by the cover of a book. If we had, we would completely have missed out on Ella Fitzgerald. Here is a excerpt from Wikipedia: “She met drummer and bandleader Chick Webb here for the first time. Webb had already hired singer Charlie Linton to work with the band, and was, The New York Times later wrote, “reluctant to sign her….because she was gawky and unkempt, a diamond in the rough.”[5]” Chick did not know she was a diamond in the rough until he heard her sing and found out she has perfect pitch, phrasing and timing. Everything else fell to the wayside, as it should.

Shine on, Susan…it’s never too late.

Love this lady. She’s paid her dues and now it’s time for Susan to have a chance of a career in singing. I just wish that the commentators over here would stop saying Blackburn, near Scotland. It’s in Scotland. You would think that they would know the accent. Thanks for the video!

    Great Job Susan.
Why is this page titled the way it is?
    That’s low.

I just hate these smart arse people who think because they are ” In the Music Industry ” they can tell us we don’t know a good singer from a bad one. This lady has the world at her feet and it looks like a little bit of jealousy with them, Maybe they are put out they didn’t find her first. Whoever you are ,you are acting like like spoilt children ,get a life, Susan is.

I never pay attention to the so-called critics. If Steve thinks that
Susan does not have a good voice - he’s right. She has a GREAT VOICE!!!!! GF Susan Boyle will be heard after this is all over.
    You mark my words.

Obvious happy story is obvious. There isnt any need for another person to say what the previous 80 already have.
I just thought it was the kind of song you’d use in a film to show a scene like that. It probably made the effect a whole lot better than if she was singing ‘Hot and Cold’.

Here’s what I really want to see:

Have a hot young girl walk onto an American Idol audition and lip synch over Susan Boyle’s performance.

Then see what the judges say without their predisposition to be disappointed.

I listened and watched Pavarotti and, so what Daniel??
I never cared for him. Lots of times he was not on key and he strained a lot. You could hear it. Hell, you could feel it. There were better opera singers than he. A lot liked him because he was Italian, so, therefore he had to be great. Wrong! I would put Richard Tucker’s voice against Pavarotti’s , any day.

Now, to get back to Susan Boyle. The woman was on Britain’s Got Talent not Britain’s got Opera.
I love classical music and opera but I love other kinds of music, also. Susan’s voice is what it is and I love it.
Daniel, why don’t you go back to your den and leave Susan alone. We really are not interested in your critique.

Hey,folks,Barbra Streisand is no beauty, and she is thought of as one of the all time great singers.I’ve heard men refer to her as ugly, many times.Mick Jagger is ugly as Hell, and it never hurt his career.Let’s give this lady a chance, people love to root for the underdog..no pun intended. She has a beautiful voice!!!!!

This woman’s talent is absolutely incredible. You could see the skepticism on some of the audience members’ faces while they were interviewing her before she sang. 10 seconds into her song the audience erupted. Hopefully some record label picks her up!

Very good point Chris, it’s outrageous how everyone couldn’t believe she had talent simply based on looks alone.

This woman’s level of talent is truly remarkable. Has she found a record deal yet? Even the ruthless Simon gave her his seal of approval. Seems like every time I turn around he’s ripping somebody a new one on American Idol. Glad everyone likes Susan as much as I do.

Mikey, I do believe Susan Boyle has gotten a record deal. No doubt a direct result of the performance witnessed in this video.

I love Susan’s voice, also, but I hope her next album is more of a mix. I mean with more upbeat songs. In that, I was disappointed with her debut album. I’m glad that she is making money but hope that no one takes advantage of her money. I pray she has someone looking out for her interests.

I think she did a great version of the Rolling Stones “Wild Horses” …

  105. Margaret Wernerspach
    June 29th, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Her version was fine, but I would have liked to see more of a mix in there. If she comes out with another album, I’m going to listen to it first, before I buy it. Susan is in the big league now, and she has to deliver. Just because I am Scottish doesn’t mean I’m going to buy Susan’s next album.
