Yesterday I posted that article about an analysis of Single ladies, the song of Beyonce and I posted here that video I found on YT of a 2 people band singing it.
I realized I liked that version so much that I listened it about 10 times I guess since yesterday so I decided to go on and explore a bit more, to find out who are these guys playing there.
So I went to their YouTube channel and I discovered a very interesting band, Pomplamoose, with a very interesting music. I say interesting because it is somehow a bit outside what I do. I kind of only know the “band” way of making music. You know, take a guy with a good voice, throw in a guitar, a bass, some drums and maybe a keyboard and hit play. Whatever.
These guys are what I could call a project. A very interesting project that I really enjoyed. I have already told you I liked their version of Single ladies more than the one of Beyonce, it’s fresher, makes me think of a great holiday morning without the obligation of doing anything, you know the high school or college holiday mornings. Yeah! That’s it!
Pomplamoose reminds me of college, I guess also because the way they are dressed and the way they act. However, I love the way they record their music and make clips out of it. Again, it’s fresh!
So here’s another song, September by Earth, wind and fire, a cool cover IMO.
By the way, you can find their music on iTunes and you can download their music from MySpace.
Now, enjoy and comment!
Today I have found a great article (and I would dare to say a great blog, but I didn’t yet have time to explore it more, but I will), an article discussing a pop-dance melody, Beyonce’s Single ladies.
What, no guitars?! No rock or blues?
No, but I dare you read further and then read the original article!
OK, I must admit I didn’t know the song, I am not spending my time on MTV since a good while and I rather listen radio channels that broadcast music that has some kind of guitar on it. Whatever. Also, my perception of dance, rnb music is somehow simplistic, not much happening there, that’s my call. And I don’t like the music of Beyonce too much. A matter of taste, I guess.
Now, reading this article made me listen the damn song 3 times already. I don’t like it, and honestly I don’t give a damn because this is not the reason I listened it.
The reason is the article of this guy who broke the song into pieces and made an in depth analysis of the whole song from a melodic, harmonic and rhythmic point of view. Conclusions are pretty wild, I didn’t even know you could hide so much under the skin of a pop song.
Read the article here and then come back to comment and let me know what’s your take on that!
Also, I reached that article after listening this song on YouTube. What do you know, I like this version better, I guess it’s more creative IMO.
The manager of U2′s 2009-2010 World Tour, said the tour is not yet profitable, after 3 months from starting it and 33 concerts. OK…and why is that?
They have this strange looking scene, called The Claw. The Claw costs 470.000 pounds per day, no matter if they play or not!! Plus they have about 200 trucks for the tour. So far, seems that the tour cost is 45.000.000 Euro! Damn, that’s an expensive tour, I guess, I can’t quite figure out these numbers, they are a bit over my capability of perception!
The tour is scheduled to end on 2010. Now you do the math to see how much will they pay until the end of the year for that damn stage.
Now, question: if such a stage is so profitable, don’t you think I should buy one myself and just rent it to U2 or Metallica or to whoever wanna take it? Don’t you think that’s one profitable business?!
By the way, if it costs 470.000 pounds per day, how much could it be to buy it?
Damn business math!
PS: I just figured out why it is named The Claw, cause it gathers the money so easily and it never let them go…I guess
I am not yet decided if I should be amazed or just used with Mr Vai being amazing…
So I just post this here and let you judge it. If you dare.
Well, OK, we all wish we could do this, unfortunately it takes a few good years and a couple of good ears just to start it.
However, a good learning program could help a lot. There are more programs out there that offers you to teach how to play the guitar, or in this case, to learn and master the guitar, and I personally give them credit, because I can tell you I have started to learn to play the guitar from a book.
Really, when people ask me how I started to play the guitar, I give them the facts: I started with a book of less than 100 pages, that gave me the basics, like basic chords, notes on the guitar neck, rhythms (ok, maybe not much to learn from a book when it comes to rhythms) and…the rest is, how they say, history. Or at least I wish it would be.
All I know is that I would have loved that at the moment I started to get interested in playing the guitar, such a resource be available (not that I had at that moment any mean to watch DVDs)
However, today there are plenty, and people interested in learning how to play the guitar don’t have why to complain.
So, as the title states, the reason I started this post is actually the method called Learn and Master Guitar (http://www.learnandmaster.com/guitar/), which is actually pretty acclaimed and not only that, it is an awarded program, as it is the winner of the 2008 Acoustic Guitar Magazine Players’ Choice Awards, two Telly Awards and an AEGIS Award for Excellence in Education! Wow! Not your regular guitar tutorial, right?
If you also count the 20 professionally produced DVDs, 5 Jam-Along CDs, a 100+ page lesson book, and a free online student support site, then I think we really have a winner!
The instructor on these DVDs is Steve Krenz. I must admit, I didn’t know about him, but the association to Donna Summer, Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton and the 20 years of professionally playing the guitar recommended him quite well.
As a second Learn and Master Guitar review, I could point you to www.guitarlessonsreviewed.com (they provide reviews for more than one such tutorial programs, such as Jamorama or JamPlay so you can compare for yourself)
Also, to make a long story short, there are 2 price packages there, one for 10 DVDs and one for 20 DVDs, price is either $139 or $149.
I don’t live in US, but honestly, how many lessons can you get from a guitar tutor for, let’s say, $150? Cause here I can tell you…not many!
I used to have these 2 CDs in my car with Sinergy that I used to listen quite a lot.
For those who are not familiar with the band, Sinergy is a band put up in an effort to present a “balls-out female-fronted metal band” to the world(Wikipedia) that lined up well known musicians from the dark side of rock: Kimberly Goss, who was keyboarding for Dimmu Borgir at the time, In Flames rhythm guitarist Jesper Strömblad, Alexi Laiho (from Children of Bodom), bassist Sharlee D’Angelo (from Arch Enemy) and drummer Ronny Milianowicz (from Dionysus)
I don’t know where they are at this moment(the CDs, I mean) since I moved to a new apartment at one moment so they got lost on the way, I guess. But I do miss them, since I really loved the general sound and the songs there.
Of course, the songs I remember better from those CDs are 2 covers (doh!) Gimme, gimme, gimme! (Abba) and Rock you like a hurricane (Scorpions). But I also remember at least the title of one of their own songs: Spit on your grave. Sweet…
So, today I wanted to listen again those 2 hits there so I looked for them on YouTube and they gave me again a nice feeling of power, energy and melody, the ingredients of true rock music.
So, I said to share these 2 songs with you here, I can bet you will enjoy them! Just think melody with a powerful woman voice and metal guitars. Yeah, baby, yeah!
Well? What do you say?
It’s always funny to see how we all love each other so much…
And fame doesn’t have much to do with it, I guess.
It happened more than 2 or 3 times these days to have a chat with my buddies, to speak about guitar music and to have the almost “predictable surprise” to see they don’t know about Chet Atkins.
The fact is that in Romania, you only know about Chet Atkins if you are a true guitar music fan, otherwise you don’t stand a chance! I know this blog is about guitars and guitar music so most of you know who Chet Atkins is, but for those that don’t know, and I bet some don’t, I decided to post here a video that open the appetite for his music.
Now, don’t you believe I am some kind of connoisseur when it comes to Chet Atkins. Not by far!
But I am a person that really enjoys his music and his playing style, as well as his abilities.
And honestly it is such a pity, if you love guitar music, to not know about a guy that is simply called Mr Guitar!
Here’s a song that for Romanians has some particular meaning, a long time ago there use to be a comic TV show here that had this song as a music theme: The entertainer, Chet Atkins
Mr Bojangles
And Maybelle
Well, now, start searching for more of Chet Atkins music!
Go, go, don’t waste your time!
PS: I know that a surprise is not predictable because if it would be predictable it wouldn’t be a surprise but sounds cool!
I was listening a song on the radio, a song that got my attention, even if I couldn’t tell who’s singing there but thanks to a few interesting lyrics that I remembered while on my computer, I can tell you today it’s about Kid Rock and All summer long…
Hmm, for me Kid Rock is a strange kind of artist, and beside the fact that he was linked to Pamela Anderson, I can’t tell much about him. Now, don’t you smile, OK? Strange that the only thing I remember about him is …Pamela Anderson. Whatever…
So, I couldn’t tell if Kid Rock is well, a rocker or not, the outfit confuses me also and well, I just didn’t pay attention to his music, I think I listened at one moment a song and then that was all.
Now comes this song on the radio and I really like it, it makes me think to Brian Adams and his Summer of 69 and James Blunt with 1973 (by the way, I love when an artist relates to another artist or a song in his music, like with James Blunt and “Here we go again”). Kid Rock does the same here with Sweet home Alabama…
Now seeing how many views this song has on YT, should I feel bad I am such an ignorant when it comes to Kid Rock?
Today I have watched what I could call the video of the week!
Watch it carefully and pay attention next time you will sing with a mic, you can never know what could happen…
Is it me or after the guy swallows the mic you could still hear the sounds he makes in the speakers?!
